Branding from start to finish

De Wielredders
Branding & interior design

The interior of De Wielredders' bike shop in Antwerp, with a striking red bike on the wall and neon light.

In 2021, Werkmmaat launched the socio-economic bike shop 'De Wielredders'. The idea is simple yet powerful: abandoned bikes are refurbished and resold, with upcycling at the core of their approach. This project not only gives bikes a second life but also provides employees with the opportunity to develop new skills and transition into the regular job market. Three years later, in 2024, the store has outgrown its space, leading to the Antwerp branch moving to a larger location, and a second branch opening in Lier.

From the very beginning, KAN was involved in the development of De Wielredders. After establishing a brand strategy for Werkmmaat in 2018, we were tasked with complementing the brand with a new sub-brand, De Wielredders. The goal was to create a brand that appeals to students and reflects Werkmmaat's accessible DNA. KAN had the opportunity to fully engage in the project—from creating the name and logo to designing a low-budget website and the interior. Even the interior design, including painting the logo on the wall, was part of our responsibility.

De Wielredders is a source of pride for Werkmmaat. The brand continues to grow, and the recent opening of new stores in Antwerp and Lier marks a significant milestone. As a branding agency, we are thrilled with the positive impact of this project and look forward to further developments.

In 2021, Werkmmaat introduced the bike shop 'De Wielredders'. From the start, KAN was given the opportunity to execute a complete branding project. Our goal was clear: to develop a brand that appeals to students and reflects Werkmmaat’s accessible DNA.

We came up with the name, designed the logo, created a low-budget website, and developed the interior of the bike shop. Even painting the logo on the wall was part of our responsibility.

Upcycling is an inseparable part of the identity of the Wielredders. The interior even includes chandeliers and lights made from old bicycle parts.
