Districtshuis Antwerpen–Service design
The Districtshuis Antwerpen, located in Harmoniepark, serves as a central point for city services. The renovated building functions as an important destination for citizens seeking assistance and information, while also hosting events and exhibitions. The cCity of Antwerp sought to optimize the visitor experience by improving visitor flow and the building’s layout.
The new district house was set to absorb the functions of two neighboring district houses, which presented considerable logistical challenges. Additionally, the location would serve a diverse array of visitors—ranging from citizens with administrative questions to park-goers simply utilizing the building’s facilities, such as restrooms. The open floor plan of the building posed challenges for acoustics and overall comfortt, while needing to be flexible enough to accommodate events and exhibitions beyond regular hours.
In collaboration with Yellow Window, we mapped out the different visitor flows and made recommendations for the building’s layout. Many of our suggestions were adopted by the architects and incorporated into the final design. The result is a modern, functional district house that meets the diverse needs of its visitors and staff. The implementation was highly successful, thanks in part to extensive co-creation workshops with future users of the building.
