2,000 km of cycling for a good cause

After our successful first edition, the KAN team was eager to participate in the 1000 km for Kom op tegen Kanker again. Because the bicycle virus has certainly not left us, in fact, it has only grown. “De Kanjers” is expanding this year with many new cyclists. A 14-member KAN platoon, including a few brave colleagues who rarely, if ever, were on a racing bike. Our team was ready at the starting line with two teams and twice as much ambition as last year!

The more, the more fun

and twice as much impact!

To get to the starting line, we had to raise €11,000 this year. Twice as much as last year's entry fee. Quite a challenge, but luckily, our team was able to count on many successful fundraising activities. As a result, we were able to organize our annual quiz, De Ronde, again. 20 teams that were able to test their knowledge and ingenuity during classic and interactive quiz rounds. In addition, our fantastic colleague, Sofie Matheussen, went all out in her highly valued bake sale. She personally baked no less than 6,591 cookies.

A strong wind

Proud to see our shirts, our sponsors Panenka, KBC Verzekeringen Slabbaerts & co, De Wielredders, Kadanza, Kerosin, BBSC Architects gave us a significant boost through their generous contributions. Our families, friends and Watt neighbors also helped us reach the finish line with their donations.

In addition, our founder Hans was so inspired by our participation last year that he independently sailed 1,000 nautical miles for Kom op tegen Kanker. For every mile he sailed, he donated one euro to our participation this year. Thanks to everyone for the support!

2000 km in 4 days

Then it was time to make all the supporting parties proud. Thanks to them, our fourteen Kanjers were able to start on May 9. The highlight was finally there: 1000 km of cycling. Thanks to all the support, KAN made it 2000 km this year. Every morning and afternoon, a team member from our two teams set out for 4 days. This was what everyone had been working towards over the past few months. The enormous effort of all those cyclists together, the beautiful ride and the contribution to a good cause make this a very special experience. Another great edition!

The crowning achievement of our efforts

This year, with the help of our supporters and efforts, we raised the amazing amount of €13,266. Together with all the other participating teams in the 1000 km for Kom op tegen Kanker, we raised a record amount of €6,925,500. This money is essential for cancer research in the hope of quickly eradicating this terrible disease. It was a real honor to contribute to this charity, something we would like to do again next year.
